My father was verbally abusive my whole life. He got sick when I was 18. We tried to take care of him for a few years but the abusive just got worse. My mom got the courage to divorce him after he got sick.

I haven’t spoken to him in years and I feel horrible for leaving him when he got sick. But if I stayed I would have been trapped. I’m a successful independent woman now but I still bare the guilt of leaving him.
