I gave up being a counselor during the pandemic. It had been ten years and I felt like a failure because I couldn't seem to take care of everyone's needs as well as my own. And I was drowning. I still feel shame about this even a year later, but I feel free for the first time since I started that career. Being a support for others is a wonderful thing, but never sacrifice your own peace.
